I think I know which of the two ways of folding bellows Craig means by "flat end fold," though I would be hard pressed to explain the two types of fold to the person who inquired about bellows folding on yesterday's list. And I never use the flat fold either, though not for any reason other than it is so uncommonly found that it doesn't look "correct." Therefore Craig's reasons for avoiding it for practical reasons rather than for purely esthetic reasons were very interesting.
My question is, though: Isn't there the same degree of mechanical wear in bellows folded the traditional way, albeit in different spots?
I enjoy Craig's posts (usually) because they always contain useful tips or food for thought.
Another question to Craig: do you avoid a hard crease in covering bellows and other pneumatic motors, as is recommended in the literature, on the theory that a crease concentrates the wear and leads to premature failure of the motor along the crease line?
