Connecting MIDI Devices Over Long Distances
By Will Dahlgren

A friend of mine needs to connect a MIDI disk player to a MIDI player. The distance is about 200 feet. Needless to say, he is having problems. If I remember correctly, the MIDI spec talks about 50 feet max.

For this installation, he would prefer to not use MIDIMAN MIDI to audio conversion and then use wireless techniques.

Anyone know of commercial product that converts the MIDI current loop to some form of high speed / medimum distance transmission (and back again)? In the computer arena, this is frequently done with serial/parallel devices and local area networks. I think I have seen an ad for a similial MIDI product - I just can't remember where.

Any other comments on conducting MIDI data over 100-500 feet would be appreciated.

[ Editor's Note: I recall that Mike Ames is using something to
[ drive his Mortier, which is quite a distance from the computer corner.
[ Mike, are you there ?
