Cordephon Zither
By Gerard Arkenbout

Zither constructors,

Still another question about the Zither "CORDEPHON".

A friend of mine is constructing such an automatic player. All parts is he building mechanically. He is also building the case in wood for this instrument. The strings of this 60 strings example are difficult to get. However most important to him the tuning of this "CHORDEPHON" is not known. In a German advertisement he found the next sentence: Die Zitherwirbel tragen das bezugliche Notenziechen. The tuningpin(screw) contains the concerning notecharacter.

Has one of you such a player to read the notecharacters on the tuningpins. I have attached a zipped file with two images of the "CORDEPHON"

In Dutch : Een tot ziens op het Net Gerard.

[ Editor's Note: I have put the file in the FTP archive:
[
[ ftp://ftp.foxtail.com/pub/automatic-music/misc/cordphon.zip
[
[ The two pictures contained in the file are quite interesting.
[ I regret that at this time I can't just add these to a
[ Web page so you can get these in one step-- I'm working on that...
