Mahogany Veneer

I lost the thread, but someone inquired about matching African mahogany veneer. There is the problem with the letter because I have never seen a piano which used African mahogany. Piano mfgrs. used Honduras mahogany for the quality instruments, and so-called Philippine "mahogany" (which isn't really mahogany at all) for everything else. Nobody used African mahogany, except for construction parts like air motor slides and such. Nobody would attempt to use African mahogany for dress veneer. A tree of African mahogany was probably 7-10 feet in diameter and such a nondescript grain that all it is good for is 2 X 4's and pallet material.
By the way, Terry, Carl Kempf is a terrific guy and does have a lot of fancy veneers, but has failing eyesight and would probably not be able to find it. If I had a garage full of veneer and it required a day or two just to dig through the stack, I would decline. The way to acquire Carl's veneer is to give him an offer he can't refuse, and take the entire lot.
