Administrivia: Foxtail Out of Disk Space
By Jody Kravitz

A group of us are experimenting with EMU System Sound Fonts (TM) as a means for getting more realistic sounding synthesis of band organs and the like. The motivations vary, some wanting to be able to do editing of arrangements and get it right the first time, and others wanting to be able to listen to arrangements without having to own the instrument.

There's a software development kit available for downloading free from Creative Labs. It supports the SoundBlaster AWE-32 which contains an EMU-Systems 8000 loadable wavetable synthesis chipset. Included in this development kit is a set of documentation for the API (Application Programming Interface) for the SoundBlaster, a set of library routines implementing the API, and a rather detailed description of the EMU-8000. All of this is in Adobe Acrobat file format (.PDF) which can be read with the "read-only" version of Adobe Acrobat, which may also be downloaded for free.

I wanted Robbie Rhodes to see the technical description, but he didn't yet have Acrobat on his Mac. Since his net connection is erratic, I tried to send Acrobat to him as an enclosure using Eudora. The file(s) were large, but not so large that it should have taken "that long" to send them. What was going on is that Foxtail ran out of disk space. I didn't notice until around 6pm that things were haywire.

Its possible that articles sent to the digest during the day today may have disappeared into the bit bucket. If you didn't see your article this evening, please resend it.

Sorry for any inconvenience!

Jody
