Instruction Rolls
By John Phillips

Jim Canavan asks whether anyone else has seen the Gulbransen Instruction Roll Set. Yes, Jim, I've seen two or three sets here in Tasmania, one of which is squirreled away in my wardrobe. Mostly they were in good shape, possibly because they were like exercise bicycles: bought with good intentions which faded away soon afterwards. I also have a single QRS Instruction Roll, which from memory is not part of a set. Finally I have a Pianola Practice Roll, produced by the Aeolian Co. I think there were several of these, covering different aspects of roll pedaling.

May I correct a couple of mistakes in recent notes from me? I've just read my bit on repairing screw threads and see that I missed the rather important information that the epoxy and sawdust should be mixed together in roughly equal volumes.

A couple of days earlier, in a note on pedaling rolls, I said that whereas Aeolian Themed and Metrostyled rolls were known as Themodist- Metrostyle in the UK, they were known as Metrostyle-Themodist in the US. I've been taking a careful look at both UK and US rolls during the past couple of days, and now realize that the above statement is rubbish. These rolls were called Full Scale Themodist in the UK and may be either Themodist-Metrostyle or Metrostyle-Themodist in the US. Just so you know.
