Vendors for Complete Street and Monkey Organs ?
By Charles Kossman

To Jody:

It was a pleasure meeting you in Chicago. I must mention again that you are running a fantastic Operation, or whatever we can call it. I enjoy tremendously reading all the stuff that comes down the line every few days.

I only collect up 'till now, (or rather try) to collect Music Boxes. Now, because of you and your helpers, I have become interested in Player Pianos and of course Reproducing pianos too.

Unfortunately, and anyway,if I ever found one that I could afford, I wouldn't have anywhere to put it. Ah, that's life.

Keep up the good work Jody.

Oh Yes, Has there ever been published anywhere on your Net, a list of Makers in Europe or elsewhere, of Small Electronic or Modern Mechanical Small organs of the types that can be Carried or Dragged on Small hand Wagons ?

I was particularly impressed with the small types like Hofbauer Harmonipan's, Busker's & Waldkircher Orgelbau's

If there is such a list perhaps you can tell me where and how to find it by Email or even Snail Mail.

Regards to ALL from Montreal, (Still Canada)

[ Editor's note:
[
[ Charles,
[
[ First, thanks for the positive feedback about our meeting
[ meeting in Chicago and also on the Digest.
[
[ The question you raise about vendors of small organs is
[ blatently missing from our "vendors" list. Thinking about
[ the convention, I have to say that the number of monkey organs
[ seen in the hallways and in the beer tent was quite a treat
[ for me. And of course there was the street organ in the
[ back of the hospitality room...
[
[ I approached a seasoned MBSI member and asked what was
[ "wrong" with the street organ in the corner because it had
[ started to play erratically, like the book wasn't feeding
[ at a constant speed. I was told, much to my suprise, that
[ the street organ was being hand-cranked and that when
[ you switched between arms, it was hard to not have a "glitch
[ in the speed". I stepped over the "rope" that was protecting
[ the organ and went around back. Sure enough, it was being hand-
[ cranked, and the task was quickly offerred to me. I managed
[ to get through about 1/2 of a tune before having to switch arms.
[ It was hard work, and keeping the tempo even is a skill which
[ does not come immediately.
[
[ Back to the subject... I got a business card from one of
[ the organ vendors, and a postcard from another, but I'd hardly
[ say I got an inclusive list of who was there. Clearly there
[ are other vendors who were not represented. This seems like a
[ good set of topics for the vendor list: MECHANICAL ORGANS:
[ Barrel Organs, Monkey Organs, Street Organs, Fair Organs,
[ Dance-Hall Organs, Music Vendors for Mechanical Organs (books,
[ rolls, EPROMS, Computer conversions, etc).
[
[ Looking over the "suppliers" list, I note that the list is
[ very "thin" on Music Box dealers, Music Box repair people,
[ and Music Box parts vendors.
[
[ I know that there are people here who are interested in both
[ of these areas and are much more knowledgeable than I. Please
[ help round-out the list of vendors.
[
[ Thanks
[ Jody
