Sources of Repair Materials
By Don Teach

Another brass tubing source is McMaster Carr, Chicago, phone number 708- 833-0300. They also have the copper washers like Cremona used on their components. It is a good source and not cheap.

I buy as much as possible from Player Piano Co. because we need him. I do, however, buy my hide glue from Garrett-Wade at 800-221-2942. Many people don't realize that hide glue comes in many different grades, with the purest grade know as jell-o. Fine Woodworking magazine ran an excellent article several years ago and even referenced Larry Broadmoor, a piano restorer.

One of your members mentioned he did not want to do business with American Piano Supply. I agree that they are the rudest company on earth. Schaff Piano of Chicago area has many parts available not shown or listed in their very out-of-date catalog. Give them a try.

Well, my two cents worth for now. I have to close down this shop and go home. Thanks.
