Valve Stems
By Craig Brougher

Chris Kalstone was wondering where to buy Ampico parts, like the springs I was selling through AMICA. Those are now sold by Player Piano Co.

Regarding the regulating valve guides, I don't recommend replacing the metal guides because I think that the metal is better than the Teflon, although if you know how to ream Teflon and if you replace the regulating stems too, then you can make Teflon work about as well.

Almost always, the problem is not the guides but the stems. Replace the stems with welding rod and ream out the bushings if you have to -- a few thousandths -- and everything will work again. However, when you cut new thread in the stems, you have to _gently_ grind the finished diameter of those threads back to the bare diameter of the rod before you can replace them in either the Teflon or the metal bushings.
