German Expressions for "Music Box"
By Hauke Marxsen

Hi everybody, those people who are interested in WWW-documents written in German language should know the German expressions for "Music Box". Philippe Rouille (Paris) and I are working on a leaflet, "How To Care For Your Music Box". Philippe was the initiator. We will create a French, an English and a German version.

Philippe asked me about the correct translation for "Music Box"; the answer is, there are a few expressions: "Spieluhr", "Spieldose" and/or "Musikdose". In the WWW are documents written in German; most from marketing agents, dealers, auctioneers, collectors or museums. A search in the WWW with the Alta Vista search-engine has brought following results:

   "Spieluhr" in 73 documents,
   "Spieldose" in 54 documents and
   "Musikdose" in 11 documents.

Don't search for "Musikbox" -- that's a coin-op playerstation for records (jukebox -- very popular 20 to 40 years ago in pubs).

Yours, Hauke
