Mechanical Music on TV
By Damon Atchison

I just remembered two of the very stupidest TV episodes I've ever seen
with player pianos!! One was of the Adam's Family (1960's episode). They
all went to this supposedly haunted cabin they inherited and these land
developers were trying to scare them away by making illusions of ghosts.
The land developers put a dime in an old nickelodeon and the thing sprung
to life, (where it got the electricity I don't know!) then it's top began
bouncing up and down, then, while it was still playing, the roll began
streaming out the front!!

They played a sound track that was of some piano being played out of tune
to dub in for the nickelodeon to make the thing sound old. Of course
though, this didn't scare the Adams'; they thought it was charming.

The next show was Quantum Leap. Sam was in this woman's house during the
Civil War, (it was a special episode where he became his grandfather, it
was really out of the ordinary for the show) and the woman had a newer
style (one from the 70's revival) player piano. Sam began pumping and it
played great, but, he was in the year 1864, how did he have a player
piano with 20 QRS rolls?? Check your history, TV writers!!
