Guttin' and Fittin'
By Robin Pratt

It has been common knowledge among restorers for some time that the disk
people have been gutting original, historic and true reproducing pianos to
install their disk operated player piannas.

Worst case? Upright Steinway Duo-Art gutted to be made into a computer
desk! (With disk drive, of course.)

Don't worry though, the way it appears now and at the rate they're going,
there won't be any of these original instruments left in 100 years (or
less) to gut. Then they'll have to figger out how to do the fittin' in
a regular pianna. I hope that they have back up boards and new
extension cords as well as black spray painted plywood (for the discrete
stack covers) available for restoration down the road, or as Allen Organ
says "For the long haul..."
