The Local Museum
By Bruce Hannover

Dear Meta,

I have recently finished restoring a glued stack Gulbransen Player
Piano. Some of your comments regarding children and their exposure to
player pianos hit close to home.

My seven year old son is totally in awe of our player piano. He
actually spends more time pumping rolls than I do. He has watched every
detail and every phase of the restoration. He knows why "hot animal glue"
is better than "Elmer's", and he knows how the player mechanism works.

He has told other kids, and some adults, all about our new musical
addition. Most of those that he tells about the piano seem to wonder
if he's telling the truth or making it all up. Finally, his music teacher
from school came to the house to see for herself. I hope the entire
second grade doesn't show up for a demo some day.

Which points out the necessity for having these fine musical
treasures on public display.

        In South Florida, Bruce Hannover.
