QRS Playasax
By Todd Augsburger

I recently purchased a QRS Playasax (reeds and rolls like a Rolmonica, but
based on a saxaphone theme) from a dealer, and am beginning to do
restoration. Although I'm familiar with Rolmonicas, and therefore the
general concepts involved, I have a couple of questions:

The gearbox cover (which holds the crank) is crumbling away. I assume this
is the nature of the (unrecognizable gray something) material used. It's
beyond the point of casting a direct copy. Any suggestions of a material to
use to replace it? Or, for curiosity, what was used originally?

How does it come apart? Or does it? The "leathers" that are visible
definitely need replacement, but the reeds all seem OK. Can I get to them,
or was this instrument "disposable"?

I'd be interested in conversing with ANYONE who has had experience with
these.
