Schultz "Pouch" Pneumatics
By Craig Brougher

Bob Conant was asking what to use for the Schultz pouch pneumatics. I
always hesitate to tell somebody that because invariably they've not
watched me do it and they can get into a heap of trouble unless they test
their method, first, and perfect it on a few, first. But I use nylon
cloth I buy from American Piano Supply co. I've laid in a good supply
from a few years ago for my own usage, and I use from this. It is the
finest cloth that money can buy, and I use hot hide glue with it, because
it gives me perfect joints and bonding. Small leaks are easy to fix, and
testing is done with compressed air at 28# pressure with the bleed
covered.

I have a jig I use when covering these things, so that I get them all
exactly the same. They have to have about 1/8 to 1/4" opening at the
hinge end. It is then tucked back away, and a rayon webbing (forget what
you call it) applied over the cloth when they're dry and tested. That
gives it an external hinge. The webbing is applied with the pneumatic
closed-- also with hot hide glue. The nylon cloth by the way is put on
with the sealing side inboard. The cloth at the hinge end is tucked in,
along with the cloth at the open end, and the sides blow out.
