Need Help with Stringing Scale
By Andy Taylor

Hi Larry

Boy it is a good thing that I like Baldwin scales!! I was just talking
about it the other day! Assuming that is a Baldwin built Monarch, this
should be the original scale.

According to the book "A Guide to Restringing" by John W. Travis, you
should have 60 unisons in the tenor section, and 180 [strings]. I can't
guarantee the piano was strung exactly like this but it should be correct
if the piano has not been tampered with in the past.

starting with the lowest tenor note:

   19 gauge 4 unisons
   18 gauge 6 unisons
   17 gauge 10 unisons
   16 gauge 10 unisons
   15 gauge 10 unisons
   14 gauge 10 unisons
   13 gauge 10 unisons

Number of unisons 60 Number of strings 180

Just a little reminder......have you checked the downbearing?

                                                          Hope this helps
                                                          Andy Taylor
