Greetings, MMD.  Regarding the "fishing-reel tracker" Dan Wilson and
Darrell Clarke have mentioned:

The piano was an inexpensive "Universal" upright, a stencil piano, as no
name was cast into the plate. Once adjusted, the device worked rather
well. The complementary symmetry of the linkage was indeed clever.

In reference to the problem of a Standard tracking mechanism creeping on
rewind, a possibility to check out:

The cam can "walk" during rewind if the shaft on the right hand chuck is
flattened on the end from wear where it touches the tracking cam, if the
point of contact isn't the exact center of the shaft, or if the cam
itself has much of a groove.

The pressure of the spring in the left-hand chuck could add to the
problem if it's made overly strong or binds.  The spring that tries to
counterbalance the whole affair can't reliably compensate for such an
inconsistent effect. Just a thought.
