Buzzing Sounds in Piano
By Roger Waring

Hi all. In further reply to Larry Lobel's query, I will just relate to
the group a problem I have with my small Challen grand.

I, too, have several adjacent buzzing notes in the upper bass. I have a
long split in the soundboard which needs attention, and I thought that
this was the cause. Maybe it is, but I only had the problem on 4 or 5
notes.

I found, however, that by lifting the strings fractionally off the bridge
where they pass the pins the problem disappears. In other words, the
string only touches the pin and not the bridge. I imagine that this must
alter the way in which the speaking length responds but the string sounds
okay and holds its pitch. Any comments, folks?
