Tall Holes in Baldwin Tracker Bar
By Bing Gibbs

The Baldwin Player that I'm rebuilding has had the Standard type
staggered tracker holes drilled into the tracker bar and a home-made
Standard tracker regulator built for it. Since the drilling and filing
job was poorly done I'm thinking of changing the tracker bar to a
Standard tracker bar, since I have a few extra of these around.

The height of the playing tracker bar holes that I have measured for
the Autopiano and the Standard tracker bars is .050 inches, and the
Baldwin height is .078 inches. This extra height of the Baldwin holes
I've been told can cause repeating-note problems on some piano rolls.

Before I swap out the tracker bar, does the Baldwin type valves,
pouches, bleeds, and pneumatics need to have the extra height hole to
allow proper playing performance, or was this just a design flaw by
Baldwin? What is the industry standard for the height and width of the
88-note hole tracker bars? Thanks.
