Festival Organ Exhibition in St. Paul MN
By Steve Grotenhuis

I missed a typo in the first sentence of my "Festival Organ" post last
week. "Inactive" should be "interactive". The whole post with
additional information is below.

[ was too inactive (sleepy) to intercede! -- Robbie

"Festival Organ -- The King of the Instruments" is an interactive
exhibition on the organ's history and cultural context, its
construction and mechanism, and its interaction with architecture.
Several additional organs and music boxes augment the exhibit. It will
be open at the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul from January 31,
1998 to June 7, 1998. The exhibit is sponsored by the Schubert Club of
St. Paul and additional support is being provided by Minnesota Public
Radio, St. Paul Pioneer Press, Music Box Society International,
Snowbelt Chapter, and American Guild of Organists.

The organs/music boxes in the exhibit are:
Frati trumpet barrel organ- circa 1890
        Chautauqua roller organ- circa 1890
Wurlitzer 153 band organ- circa 1910
        Estey parlor organ
        Rieger Positive organ- 1957
        Jaeckel portable organ- 1996

My favorite component of the exhibit is a 16' wooden pipe with a
bellows attached that booms out a "C" three octaves below "middle C".

Perhaps more information can be provided by members of the Snowbelt
Chapter of the Music Box Society International.
