Time-to-Overhaul of New Players
By John A. Tuttle

Hi All, Ken Ellison asks:

> I wonder how long QRS players are expected to last before
> requiring a major rebuild?

Answer: No one knows! They do seem to be holding up very well. The
most common problem I've encountered is squeaking in the roll spindles.
Another common complaint is how difficult it is to make the piano
'express'. Seems the system is so air tight that getting from loud
to soft in a very short period of time is next to impossible because
the vacuum doesn't 'bleed off' fast enough.

In my opinion, part of the problem is the removal of the pneumatic air-
motor which was replaced with an electric motor. Also, removing the
air-motor created a unit that can not be used without electricity. I
think it was shortsightedness on QRS's part but that's just my opinion.

Musically,
John A. Tuttle (john@player-care.com)
