McNair Ilgenfritz & MIDI Files
By Richard Stibbons

I'm intrigued by the interest in Pauline Alpert. She has always been
my favorite performer on Duo-Art and it's interesting to hear she
really did exist.

Does anyone know about another highly active, very different pianist
of the period, McNair Ilgenfritz. He turns up on Duo-Art, Ampico and
Recordo, and -- although frequently laughable -- some of his salon
pieces really capture the imagination of some of my friends (mostly the
blue rinse ones !).

He seems to have been the Liberace of the 1920's, but no-one I've asked
knows anything about him. Incidentally, I've transcribed many Pauline
Alpert, Adam Carroll, etc., dance rolls to MIDI. This is purely a hobby
and I'll be pleased to send copies to anyone interested.

Keep up the good work

P.S. Did anyone mention that poet John Betjman got into hot water
during the last war when he wrote :- "Come friendly bombs and fall
on Slough " !

[ I bet he did -- A Nazi propaganda song of the period was
[ "Bombs Over England"! -- Robbie
