Transcribing Rolls & PowerRoll Questions
By John J. Breen

I would be very interested in more details about the PowerRoll that was
discussed in recent issues of MMD.

Are pictures available? Exactly how is it attached to an existing
mechanical instrument? What is the projected cost and schedule for
availability?

I would also be very interested in details for whatever mechanism
and software Wayne Stahnke is using to scan rolls into the MIDI format.
As I wrote a few months ago in MMD, I would like to start converting
many of my (deteriorating) rolls into MIDI format.

I don't have an immediate need for these MIDI files, but if I don't
preserve the rolls somehow soon, they won't be readable by any means
in the (not too distant) future.

For player piano rolls, I would also like to be able to insert the
words that are on the rolls if there is a way to do that. I realize
that this would have to be done manually, unless an optical scan were
done like Richard Stibbons is doing in the UK.
