Stack Full of Oil
By Bill Boulton

Dear MMD,

Just thought I would through this out to everyone. I am deep into the
rebuilding of a standard double valve stack, which the former restorer
thought it would be a good idea to oil every gasket, valve faceing,
pouch, "including zephir skin in primary", and piece of wood in the
entire system. I cannot identify the oil.

In any event, I have been washing parts in Naphtha, and having good
results with adhesion, although I'm not sure about the long term. The
oil has deeply penetrated the wood. I purposely split some primary
valve buttons apart and found oil in the center.

Does anyone know of a better non-water containing degreasing agent that
may be better than Naphtha.

Regards,

Bill Boulton
