Sources of Cheap Antique Music Boxes
By Mike Knudsen

Ref: : 980623 MMDigest

Well, a 15-1/2" Regina in good playing condition is nowadays
worth at least $4000-$5000. Short bedplate and/or double combs
push the price into the top of that range.

$1500 - $2000 might get you a small (8" - 10") German disc box
needing some TLC.

One way you might get a Regina cheap would be if the case were really
bunged up, but most forms of abuse (including water damage) that
trash cases will also spoil the mechanism.

So you need more money or the willingness to learn and do the needed
repairs and restoration.

I do agree that antique dealers either over- or under-estimate the
value of antique instruments, radios, etc. --Mike Knudsen
