The Wonderful Orchestrions I Saw in my Youth
By Scott Jamieson, forwarded

--- forwarded message, please reply to sender and MMD ---

Hello. About 25 years ago, at Seattle Center, there was a ring of
curio shops and exhibits. One of them contained antique mechanical
music players. They are no longer at Seattle Center, and I have never
seen or heard of them any other place.

These did not play recordings. Rather, each was fitted with a glass
box that contained actual instruments (violins, banjos, truncated
piano keyboards, many percussion instruments), played by mechanical
"fingers."

I found your site by searching "mechanical" "music" and "violins."
I see the word "orchestrion" on the page, and this seems vaguely
familiar. Is the word for the wonderful things I saw in my youth?

I'd appreciate any information you can give me.

Sincerely,

Scott Jamieson
