Wurlitzer APP vs. Caliola Arrangements
By Matthew Caulfield

To answer Lloyd Osmundson's question about the difference between APP
and Caliola rolls:

I have read (but have no documented proof, though it sounds correct)
that APP (Automatic Player Piano) and Caliola arrangements were the
same except that, as Lloyd observes, the Caliola notes were sustained
longer in the paper to account for the dynamics difference between the
striking-and-self-sustain of a piano and the immediate shut-off of a
wind-blown pipe.
