Red Welte Vorsetzer for Steinway Grand
By Dan Wilson, London

Brian Chesters asked in 990111 MMDigest:

> Would it be easy (or acceptable) to sacrifice a nice Welte Vorsetzer
> push-up piano player to save a gutted Steinway Welte grand?

Remember that even Steinway players don't give you back the work in
restoring them when they sell, so from an economic point of view the
Vorsetzer would have vanished into a black hole.

Keep the Vorsetzer as is, and put a Welte Licensee action in one of the
Steinways (for playing those hot recut rolls on); choose the best, and
after your unprofitable sale you'll still have something nice to play.

Dan Wilson, London

[ I agree with Dan: (1) Folks who enjoy pop music simply won't find
[ much for a Red Welte system, and (2) the Vorsetzer will find the
[ right home where the owner already has a favourite piano and enjoys
[ the Welte classic library. Maybe D. L. Bullock can assemble a
[ Welte Licensee action for you from parts in his warehouse!
