Large Drive Pulleys
By Hal Davis

In response to Howard Kohlbrenner's comments about the large pulley.

Some years ago there was a widely known outfit that would put larger
pulleys on their 'rebuilds' in order to run the pump faster.

His is not an isolated case. I had at least three machines that were
purchased from this same company by customers of mine wherein it was
necessary to replace the two and a half or three inch pulleys in order
to make the machine run at the correct speed. In each case the
pneumatic stack had to be recovered as like in Howard's case, the pump
didn't supply enough suction to operate the stack when operated at the
proper speed.

In one case, it was also necessary to recover the entire pump and
install new flap valves.

Unfortunately, there are still 'restorers' that will resort to this scam
on their clients in order to cover up not a vast, but rather a half vast
job.
