Arrest made in "dropped" piano fraud
Hi MMDers: Updating everyone as to my belief that I was defrauded
in connection with the purchase of a Steck Duo-Art from a dealer in
Jacksonville, Florida, (MMD 1998.12.21.01, 1998.12.22.07,
1999.07.23.02), I am pleased to report that:
Paul Lamont Deaux of Jacksonville, Florida, is presently incarcerated
in the Duvall County, Florida, jail, having been charged with two
felonies in connection with an alleged 1998 scheme to defraud Timothy
A. Baxter: (1) Scheme to Defraud and (2) Grand Larceny. Mr. Deaux's
alleged scheme involved the "sale" and restoration of a Steck Duo-Art
player piano which never existed.
Restitution of the amounts lost are a significant possibility,
according to Detective S. L. Carver of the Forgery/Fraud Unit,
Jacksonville, Florida sheriff's department.
My hope is that Mr. Deaux will avoid doing this to other people.
Mr. Deaux and his "Piano Shoppe" filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy in
December, and I was listed as a creditor. However, debts incurred by
fraud are not dischargeable in bankruptcy.
Thanks to all who listened sympathetically to my tales of woe,
including Richard and Janet Tonnesen, Robin Pratt, Larry Lobel, George
Bogakto, John Tuttle, Craig Brougher, Andy Taylor, Joyce Brite, Mike a
lawyer from Cleveland (Mike, I lost your e-mail -- send me a message!)
and lots of others.
Happy in Atlanta,
Tim Baxter
