Ampico Power Toggle Switch Replacement
By Bill Maxim

Has anyone on this list had experience repairing or replacing toggle
switches in Ampico grands? I am not speaking about a slider switch
(which PPCo handles), although the bat handle is activated by a slider
on the control panel.

The piano in question is a late A (B Pump) Marshall & Wendell. The
switch has an offset arm reaching up to the slider. Because of the
offset, a pin is driven through the bat handle in the middle of the
ball where it pivots. Without the pin, the handle would twist rather
than activating the switch.

I've tried adapting an ordinary toggle switch from Granger, and
it works but only with the control panel off. The problem with the
original switch is not the contacts -- they are not burned -- but the
two fiber legs holding the moving contact have broken off. Does anyone
know of a repair or replacement?
