Brazing and Welding Cast Iron

I think we have a confusion of terms going on. Welding does not
necessarily mean electro-arc welding. The process and practitioners
I referred to use an oxy-acetylene torch and melted rod as a medium.
As far as I know, arc welding is not a reliable way to join cast iron.

I think acetylene torches predate arc welding, and their use for
joining is still called welding. Brazing, by its name, refers to the
use of brass rod or compound at a lower heat than welding. I just
double-checked Webster's dictionary, and braze does seem to refer
to brass.
