Rubber Bands on Piano Rolls
By John Phillips

When I rediscovered my "Rule Britannia" roll it clearly demonstrated
the rule: "Never Use Rubber Bands on Piano Rolls."

When I put the roll away, years ago, before I knew better, I put two
rubber bands on it because it had a torn leader and needed something to
hold it together. As they do, the bands had hardened and stuck to the
paper. In removing them I removed some of the typescript on the leader
too.

These days, if a roll has no fastener attached to the tag, I tie up the
roll with black cotton tape.
