Hammer Springs & Player Repetition Rate
By Larry Toto

I wish to increase the touch weight of an upright player. Am I asking
for trouble by replacing the hammer return springs with (Schaff) medium
or heavy gauge springs? I suspect that the pneumatics can handle the
added load easily enough, but will the repetition rate be affected?

I am considering replacing the springs in one octave and running the
test roll through to test the effect on repetition rate at high/low
vacuum and with/without the soft pedal. (Currently, the highest
repetition rate is notably (no pun intended) slower with the soft pedal
applied.)

Thanks for comments,
Larry Toto
