Mechanical Music in "Man's Favorite Sport?"
By David Snelling

My wife and I were just enjoying our lunch with BBC TV on in the
background as wallpaper when -- Lo and behold -- Rock Hudson
accompanied by two lady stars went into a "Piano Museum" full of (on
camera) something like six to eight mechanical musical instruments
starting with a single Mills Violano, all apparently in working order.
Rock Hudson proceeded to insert coins one after the other in all of
them until they were playing simultaneously!

The film was made in 1964 and called "Man's Favorite Sport?". The
museum was purportedly located in San Francisco. Does anyone know the
story behind this museum and does it still exist or was it created as a
film set? If the latter it must have involved someone of substance in
the Mechanical Music field because of the sheer quality of the
instruments on display. I hope some MMDer will be able to let us have
the full story of this museum.

David Snelling - in the Isle of Man

[ Art Reblitz said the instruments definitely were not filmed at the
[ Cliff House complex in San Francisco, and he said he was told that
[ the instruments, from a private collection, were filmed at an exhibit
 [ at the Seattle World's Fair. See 980630 & 000801 MMD. -- Robbie
