Soundboard Wood

Estonia pianos use Siberian spruce for their soundboards. Considering
the unique logistics and availability of Siberian spruce, we always
take pride in telling our customers of this feature.

I believe most of the higher grade pianos -- like Mason & Hamlin,
Steinway, and Story & Clark pianos produced in the USA -- use Eastern
Canadian (Bolduc) spruce.

Sitka spruce is used in most of the Asian-built pianos like Yamaha,
Kawai, Samick and Young Chang products. (I'm told that Yamaha uses
Eastern Canadian only in their CFIIIS Concert Grand).
