New Book on American Steam Whistles
By Ron Bopp

MMDers, there is a new book on the market I can recommend. It is
titled "The Engine's Moan, American Steam Whistles", written by the
editor of "Horn & Whistle", Ed Fagen. For those of you who remember,
"Horn & Whistle" is a journal devoted to the noises of the industrial
revolution, started a few years ago by Past-President of the MBSI,
Jack Hardman.

Anyway, Ed has done a fantastic job with his book on steam whistles.
It is profusely illustrated, some pages in color, and even includes
several pages on steam calliopes and air calliopes. The book has 277
pages, is 8 1/2 x 11 and is soft cover.

The book, which sells for $39.95, is marketed through the Astragal
Press which can be accessed through either www.astragalpress.com or
<astragalpress@attglobal.net> .

Anyone having a steam whistle, or wanting to get one, would be
interested in the book. For anyone's information, I am giving a workshop
at the AMICA convention in Springdale, Arkansas, in late June on bells
and whistles and will have some working models at the workshop.
