Purple Bellows Cloth Failure
By Bruce Clark

When D.L. Bullock mentioned failure of bellows cloth, it reminded me
that I better check the interior of our Ampico for bellows failure.
I, too, had used the "Papal Purple" cloth from PPCo. in mid 1994.
To my dismay, some of the cloth was crisp as a potato chip.

The puzzling part is not all of it was, yet the material was all off
the same roll, and all parts were recovered the same time. The air
motor is fine. The tracking mechanism and the rewind repeat is crisp
and leaking badly. Other parts are marginal. I would like to hear
if others have experienced this problem.

Oddly, the amplifier pneumatic is covered in its original cloth that
must be 75 years old. It does not leak! One might think modern
technology could produce a cloth that would last longer than 75 years,
but apparently there is no incentive.

I have ordered a different brand of motor cloth and hope it will have
a longer life.
