Piano Roll Storage Cabinets
By James Jelinek

In response to Ms. Anderson's question regarding piano roll cabinets;
I have in stock dozens of such cabinets in various sizes and figurations.
These were made by outside companies and sold or even given away with
player pianos at various music stores. I have had two units that were
actually made to match Weaver and Johnson pianos. They had the same
large frame with heavy columns on the front to match the case on the
pianos.

The normal or common roll cabinets are usually made of poplar or bass
wood, with a veneer top or door to match a particular type of wood
(walnut or mahogany). The old ones had to be made of that wood so that
they would more properly match the pianos. The case can hold anywhere
from 30 to 200 rolls, the most common cases hold about 50. There are
exceptions to this and I have seen some cases that held several hundred.
Price on the average case runs about $250 and on up for a restored
unit.
