Seek Quality Piano Wire
By Bill Maguire

I have been using Mapes strings (tel. 1-423-543-3195) for restringing
low and medium quality pianos in most cases. I have been using strings
from GC Piano Co. (tel. 1-416-755-6789) in Ontario, Canada, for higher
quality pianos. I find the tone of Mapes is good, but I want more
richness and brilliance. I like the quality and tone of GC bass
strings.

Shipping charges from USA to Canada are very high. I can't find the
receipt, but I think I paid $125 (just shipping) for sending two paper
patterns and receiving two sets of strings. With shipping, the cost
per set of bass strings from GC was almost triple that of Mapes.

I am looking for good sources for quality bass strings as well as
Roslau piano wire in 5-pound coils, preferably located in the US.
If anyone has any other ideas or thoughts on the matter I would love
to hear them.
