Player Piano Pianists
By Brian Dolan

Hi Mechanical Music Digest

I'm hoping for some advice on where to gather information about early
(ca. 1920s-40s) musicians who made a reputation for themselves by
recording player piano rolls. I'm interested in the early spread of a
name/fame through mechanical means. Who were the pianists who made
money off of recording? Also, which black musicians were given an
opportunity to 'perform' in places they might otherwise have been
discriminated? Any pointers on the best places to look at the player
piano from the musicians' point of view would be greatly appreciated.

  Best wishes,

Brian
