Value of Steinway Duo-Art Grand Piano
By Arthur Marino

Re the Duo-Art Steinway in Reno [040215 MMDigest]. It is my experience
that a restored gutted player Steinway is at the rock bottom of the
scale as far as retail is concerned.

It costs just as much to restore as a non-player and in my opinion it
will never get the price of a non-player, as most Steinway buffs will
laugh at the huge empty space at the front regardless of what clever
way is used to conceal it. I feel that they are a "bastard child" with
no hope of finding a home, and frankly are not worth the effort unless
it is happily married to its original Duo-Art mechanism.

I also think that $3500 for the complete piano is a very fair price.
