Fitting the Dynavoice Keytop Piano Player
By Tom Lear

Hal Davis mentioned encountering a problem fitting a Dynavoice to the
spacing on a Steinway. I have encountered this situation on three
keyboards.

On an electronic keyboard that I used to transfer rolls to MIDI files,
and on my Mission Style upright, I found it necessary to remove the
lowermost B-flat key in order to have enough clearance for the left
foot, which would otherwise have to be jammed between the cheek block
and the B-flat, as it sits upon the lowermost A. This is not a problem
on the right foot, as there are two white notes there which allow
plenty of room for the foot.

For a Pianocorder unit I built into a Dynavoice case for Mike Stehney,
I had to shave 1/16" from each end of the bottom rail so that the
finished unit would fit between the cheek blocks of his Kranich & Bach.
In addition, Mike also found it necessary to remove the lowermost
B-flat key to obtain clearance for the left foot of the Dynavoice.

The Dynavoice easily breaks down into its component parts, and it is
simple to remove the footings from the rail. The rail may then be
trimmed on a table saw with a metal cutting disc. The mounting holes
on the rail may need to be elongated a bit to accommodate the new
position of the feet, but nothing else on the Dynavoice needs adjusting
after this fix.
