Cleaning Screws
By Joel Cluskey

Is there any efficient way to clean your typical lightly corroded and
rusted screws that come out of a player piano when it is being rebuilt?
I find the cleaning process to be one of the more time consuming jobs.
I chuck them individually into my cordless drill, drive them into #0000
steel wool, then drive them into a soft cloth to buff them to a mirror
shine. Final solvent cleaning and lacquer protects them for the long
term.

I have seen these tumbler type cleaning tools that remind me of the rock
tumblers we had as a child which would polish rocks to a mirror finish.
Can these effectively be used to clean a pile of screws? Are there
other more effective ways to accomplish this task? Any thoughts, or
cautions, would be appreciated. Thanks.
