Converting Audio to MIDI
By John Farrell

Julian Dyer rightly applauded the advances which have been made with
roll scanning during the last decade and wondered what other challenges
in the piano roll world remained to be tackled.

For some years now a group of people, headed by a Russian, I believe,
have been trying to write a computer program which will convert an
audio recording into a MIDI file. Now and again I check their progress
but they are still a long way from achieving their goal. I hope that
they never succeed because if they do most of my music transcription
business will go down the drain!

If you are interested in this line of activity enter the keyword Widi
into your search engine (I use Google); it is a fascinating read.
