Internet Auction Fraud
By Kevin McElhone

There is an ongoing scam involving 'Second Chance' offers that eBay
has been unable to put an end to. The scam artist sends an email to
under-bidders on expensive items. They say that they are the seller
and use eBay's email forwarding system to send emails that look like
Second Chance offers. They try to get the under-bidder to send payment
by wire transfer to a foreign account. (The email even makes it look
like eBay wants the item to be paid for by wire transfer).

Important, please note: We _never_ use the Second Chance Offer system
on eBay. We will _never_ send a Second Chance offer on any of the
items we sell. If you should get a Second Chance offer related to one
of our items, _send no money_ but forward the email (with full headers)
to "spoof@ebay.com" with an explanation of the circumstance.

Pass the word about this new scam -- eBay is dropping the ball on this
problem!
