Mechanical Music in the Movies
By Ingmar Krause

Just happened to flip TV channels right into the middle of
"Joshua Then and Now" (1985) with James Woods and Alan Arkin.

I looked it up on IMDB [editor: Internet Movie Database?], but didn't
find any references there. But I _know_ I heard a musical jazz piece by
Pierre Charial on his 42-key Odin, accompanied by someone playing a
saxophone. One of the odd things is that it is not a French movie, but
Canadian.

The Odin piece was very short and apparently played only at this one
part I happened to switch channels to. No instrument visible, but still
very interesting indeed.

P.S. Continued watching it. There is at least one other part in the
movie where the same music is to be heard in the background: the scene
where his wife decides to move back to the hero, after he was declared
gay by the media. He is waiting outside to pick her up and flashes his
coat open to her, standing nude (except for the coat and a pair of
boxers). The closing credits use the music as background ... wonderful!
The credits mention three soloists, none of whom are Charial, but I bet
100 buxx that he at least arranged and perforated the music for the
organ.
