33-key Ruth Fraud on eBay
By Nicholas Simons

There has been some confusion over the correct designation and size
of the Ruth organ involved in the eBay fraud. This is quite common
amongst people not familiar with German organs.

Ruth designated their organs by model number. Their 52-keyless organ
was designated the Model 33. This is often referred to as 33er which
becomes confusing when one also has an 89-key Gavioli being referred
to as 89er. So we have the 'er' suffix sometimes representing the
model number and sometimes the key size. Quite simply, one needs to
understand one's organs.

The Ruth Model 33 is therefore a 52 keyless organ, assuming it is a
factory original. It may be a 52 key if it were converted at sometime
from an earlier barrel instrument to the standard Ruth 33 scale, but
with a keyed frame, or possibly converted from paper roll. Original
Ruth (non barrel) organs were built with keyless frames for card, or
roll frames.

Best regards,
Nicholas Simons, GB
