Price Paid for Steinway XR Duo-Art
By Tom Hutchinson

MMD'ers, There have been a couple recent messages commenting on
Steinway XR prices. I recently purchased a Steinway XR Duo-Art
on eBay for $5550.00.

At that price I didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly
surprised. Under a superficial layer of grime the finish, except
for some minor veneer damage, was in remarkably good shape. After
reconnecting the tube from the play/reroll lever and replacing the
power cord, it played. I had it tuned a couple days ago and it has
a bright lively sound that is very pleasant to listen to.

I would like to comment favorably on Piano Pro and John Wrasse's
people for the excellent transport of this piano from the Chicago
area to central Missouri at a reasonable price. I already had over
75 Duo-Art rolls but am always looking for more. As many of you
know I specialize in repairing rolls that many would throw away.
So if any reader has Duo-Art, Themodist or Ampico rolls for sale
that fall into the "needing repair" category, let me know.
