Preserving Original Literature
By John J. Breen

I want to echo the sentiments of Kevin McElhone that the preservation
of the mechanical music literature needs to take a higher priority.
I have been actively seeking Violano roll catalogs for my ongoing
rollography project for nearly ten years now. So far I have been
able to locate only catalog editions 3, 8, 9, 10 and a partial of 12.

One collector in the Midwest, who has no heirs, claims to have a full
set but will not share them with the project. Meanwhile, there is
a substantial "hole" in the rollography database, which any one of the
"missing" catalogs could fill in nicely.

These paper items are rare and need to be shared before they, and the
information they contain, are lost forever.
